Communities in the San Gabriel Valley and east LA County have a great deal in common with communities in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties:
- like the Metrolink commuter rail system which while hubbed at Union Station in Downtown LA reaches to the cities of San Bernardino and Riverside;
- like a goods movement system that begins at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and operates on the rail corridors and the highways through the Inland Empire;
- like the potential economic power of Ontario Airport which, while located in San Bernardino County, will create opportunity for communities within its catchment area which includes neighboring counties.
At Greener Valleys 2016 we will be asking the question, if communities from these counties and their leaders can find a way to collaborate more directly than they have before on the planning and development of their shared transportation infrastructure, how much better can the result be – in terms of enhanced economic prosperity, expanding job base, more equitable and sustainable communities, reduced congestion and better air quality?
